Getting here

Fly into Auckland and the hard part is over. The bus does the rest.

Transfers first

Let us drive

Surf Tours: transport included

Every $495 tour includes return transport on the Aotearoa Surf bus. Pickup points: Auckland Airport, Auckland CBD, Albany and Warkworth. Fly in from Christchurch, Wellington or Dunedin in the morning, be checking the surf at Mangawhai by afternoon.

Ultimate Surf Camp: three ways in

Free bus transfers run from Remuera and Albany, or drop your camper at camp yourself. Flying in from further afield? Add $100 for return Auckland Airport transfers; tell us the flight and we handle the meeting and the messaging home.

Surf & Stay: bring your own wheels

Stays do not include transfers; we recommend your own vehicle. Te Arai and Mangawhai are an easy hour north of Auckland, and having a car makes the beaches, the village and the coast walks yours.

Driving yourself

  • Te Arai (11 Te Arai Point Road): about 1 hour from Auckland CBD, 75 minutes from the airport. State Highway 1 north, follow the Te Arai signs after Wellsford.
  • Mangawhai Surf Lodge (299 Molesworth Drive): about 75 minutes from Auckland, ten minutes past the Te Arai turnoff via Mangawhai Village.
  • Orewa: 20 minutes north of the CBD on the motorway; lessons meet on the beach.
  • Christchurch, Sumner: 15 minutes from the CBD, 25 from the airport; sessions meet opposite 50 The Esplanade.

Parking is free and easy at every base: ten cars at Te Arai, seven to eight at the lodge, street parking at the beaches.

International travellers

Auckland is the arrival airport of choice. From there, grab a cheap rental car; wheels of your own are the freedom pass to everything New Zealand puts in front of you. Booking a tour or camp instead? Select your transfer option at checkout and the driving is our problem. Pair this with the packing list and seasons guide and your whole trip fits one carry-on brain.
