Te Arai
White sand, gentle banks and our Northland HQ. The beach the camps call home.
- $79 per person
- $69 each for 4 or more
- Family groups welcome
Two hours, one goal: you, standing, grinning. ISA qualified coaches, boards and wetsuits included, three coasts to choose from.

White sand, gentle banks and our Northland HQ. The beach the camps call home.

Auckland's easiest learner beach, 20 minutes from the CBD on the Hibiscus Coast.

Sumner and the city beaches, South Island salt at learner-friendly prices.
Every lesson starts on the sand: safety, technique, and how to read the bank you are about to surf. Then it is wetsuits on and waves until your arms file a complaint. Instructors are ISA qualified, first aid trained and police checked, with target ratios of no more than 1:6 in the water, the same standard behind every Aotearoa Surf program since 2002.
Hooked after one session? Lessons are the gateway to a Surf Experience weekend or a Surf Tour.
Amazing lesson with Kay at Te Arai! She customized the lesson to fit the experience we had in the group and helped everyone get from whitewash to catching green waves! Highly recommend and can't wait to come back.
The instructions were super clear and each person had attention on them to focus on individual improvement. My goal was to learn how to read a wave and stand up, and I achieved both those things in the 2 hours.
My son and I had an EPIC time in Te Arai, super friendly and experienced instructor, stunning weather, beautiful beach, lots of laughs, and we both managed to ride some waves. Can't wait to get back!
Two hours of coaching, surfboard and wetsuit. Just bring togs, a towel and a smile; we handle the rest.
Group lessons from age 6. Younger or nervous surfers do best with a private lesson, which starts at age 4.

Yes. Te Arai drops to $69 each for 4 or more, Christchurch to $65 each for 4 or more.
Most first timers stand up in their first two hour lesson. Every session starts on the sand with a welcome, safety and technique, then it is waves until your arms file a complaint.
You should be comfortable in the water, but lessons run in waist to chest deep water on learner banks with instructors right beside you. Tell your coach and they will keep you in your depth.
We run in nearly all conditions. If there is lightning or a tsunami, that's a no go! Instructors make the call and move or reschedule the session.
5 days notice for a full refund, or reschedule free of charge. Full terms are shown at checkout.
Instant booking at all three beaches, live availability.
